HOT SPRINGS NATIONAL PARK, Arkansas — Internationally acclaimed cosplay duo Cowbutt Crunchies will return to the ninth Spa-Con comics and pop culture convention at the Hot Springs Convention Center September 19 – 21.
They were a smash hit at the 2022 Spa-Con, Visit Hot Springs Special Events Manager Alexis Hampo said Thursday.
“Cowbutt Crunchies coming back for our ninth Spa-Con is such a big deal,” Hampo said. “We were blown away in 2022, and I imagine they’re going to amaze us again with their skillful and creative cosplays.”
Discount advance Spa-Con ticket purchases are available until May 5, she said.
Weekend passes are now $25 and VIP passes are $125. On May 5 those prices will increase to $35 and $150. They can be purchased at www.spa-con.org.
Cowbutt Crunchies specialize in complex couture cosplay and incredible pop culture based designs, creating mixed media masterpieces using a variety of techniques including advanced needlework, extreme wigwork, moldmaking, armor detailing and more.
Regan (one of the two cosplayers) was crowned Global Champion at the Crown Championships of Cosplay Finals in 2019. Regan and her partner, Scone, have three cosplay books including: “The Art of Extreme Wig Styling,” “Fabulous Cosplay Footwear” and “The Cosplay Book of Ballgowns.”
They will conduct the Mixed Media Embroidery Workshop — free to ticket holders — and will judge the Cosplay Contest on Saturday.
“Regan and Scone, were so kind the last time they were here,” Hampo said. “They took so much time to talk to fans and truly were just gems. They’re the ultimate pros in the cosplay world. This is who you want to get advice from when it comes to cosplay.”
Previously announced as a special guest celebrity at this year’s Spa-Con was
Zeno Robinson, the award-winning actor who voices Hawks in the “My Hero Academia” anime series.
“Zeno won the award for best voice actor at the 2021 Anime Awards for his work as Hawks in ‘My Hero Academia’ and we’re fortunate to have him as one of our featured guests this fall at Spa-Con,” Hampo said. “Spa-Con has a lot of ‘My Hero Academia’ fans who I think will be excited about his guest appearance too.”
“Spa-Con is going on its ninth year in Hot Springs, so of course it’s going to be a good one,” she said.
