From the silver screen to the comic book page, birds have soared into our pop culture consciousness, captivating audiences with their unique characteristics and symbolism. Just like Spa-Con, birds cross into every and all genres of pop-culture and science fiction. From superheroes like Robin and Raven to the Hitchcock classic “Birds,” feathered friends and foes seem to be around everywhere we go.
Spa-Con’s 2025 poster design by talented local artist Gustav Carlson features a few of our favorite pop-culture birds including: a raven (Teen Titans), an owl (Court of Owls, Nite Owl, & Harry Potter), a robin (Batman & Robin), a penguin (The Penguin), a falcon (Captain America), and of course Arkansas’ state bird, a mockingbird. This year’s poster also highlights Hot Springs’ natural beauty with flowing waters, lush trees, and the Garvan Woodland Gardens Treehouse. Our resident alien from the 8th Annual Spa-Con poster, Connie, returns as a birding enthusiast trading her UFO for her trusty Ostrich steed!
